Piloto Cubano is a tobacco variety that originated in the town of Piloto, in Cuba. It’s arrival in the Dominican Republic in the 1960s is a bit fuzzy (different outlets describe different sources), but it is a true treasure that this variety escaped Cuba.
During a recent trip to the DR by Whole Leaf Tobacco’s Don Carey to discover top Dominican varieties, a source for a strain identical to the original Piloto Cubano leaf was located.
We are proud to make this tobacco available to you now. This tobacco is grown in the Cibao Valley where some of the richest soil in the Dominican Republic is found.
